Children are not small adults. Their bodies are still developing, and the spine is no exception. Children can experience spinal complaints just like adults, but the causes and symptoms often differ. Because children are physically very active — they fall, climb, tumble and play sport — their spines are subjected to considerable forces. These forces are usually harmless, but sometimes they can lead to complaints.
Common complaints in children
Common complaints in children that we can help with include:
- Growing pains
- Back pain or neck pain
- Headaches
- Scoliosis (curvature of the spine)
- Posture problems
- Sports injuries
- Concentration or behavioural problems (sometimes related to spinal issues)
Treatment
Chiropractic treatment for children is adapted to their age and development. The techniques used are gentler than those used for adults, and treatment is always tailored to the individual child. Children generally respond quickly to chiropractic care. Parents are always welcome to stay during the consultation.
